ABOUT the chapter
The Alpha Sigma Chapter of The Kappa Alpha Order was founded in 1899 at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
The current chapter is home to over 70 members and is one of the most influential and impactful greek organizations on GT’s campus.
Find the Chapter House at the corner of Fifth Street and Techwood Drive, towering over the front lawn with its white columns.

Charter established October 21, 1899 by J. L. Hardeman.
Charter Members include Charles Emmett Rushton, Linton Monroe Solomon, Stephen Logan Snowden, and John Addison Whitner Jr.

The Founders of the Alpha Sigma Chapter are W. P. Wheeler, J. R. Straton, W. H. Hillyer, C. E. Dowman Jr., and J. L. Hardeman.
ABOUT KA
Kappa Alpha Order provides a way of life significant to the development of young men.
KA traces its beginning to 1865, when four men at Washington College, in Lexington, VA, decided to bind their friendship by a “mutual pledge of faith and loyalty.”
Our founders sought to create an organization rooted in the highest ideals of the time. Those same traits of honor, chivalry, and gentility have remained timeless throughout the ages and are the core of Kappa Alpha.
Emulating chivalric ideals and genteel ethics, KA translates these timeless philosophies into the mainstream of American colleges and universities. These gentlemanly traits are the hallmark for men who have chosen our unique lifestyle.
The philosophy of the Order is that the acquisition of knowledge and the development of character are the great goals of life. Through fellowship and brotherhood, KA seeks to teach young men to be leaders; to be brave, self reliant, and to continually strive to better themselves.

God and Women
Our motto is “Dieu et Les Dames” and reminds each of us that there is a Higher Being in our lives. Just as our founders were in 1865, we are called together to demonstrate our Reverence for God and to cultivate our moral faculties.

Chivalry and Respect for All
The second part of our motto reminds us that the Age of Chivalry idealized woman and honored her. The modern gentleman continues this practice of Gentility, showing respect and humility to all that he encounters on his campus, in his family, in his community, and in his career.

Continuous Lifelong Learning
The mind is immortal, and we are called upon to seek Knowledge and develop our character throughout our lives. Our quest for this lifelong learning is manifested in our academic success, our career achievements, and the positive impact we have on our communities.

Development of Character
We are leaders among men. We demonstrate this Leadership by setting the proper example of the modern gentleman and by serving mankind in whatever manner we are called. We demonstrate courage and perseverance as we both lead and follow.

Faithful unto Death
We are bound to each other—for life. We befriend and assist our brothers, especially in times of need. “Fratres Usque Ad Aram Fideles.”

Our aim is Onward and Upward, and it is in this direction that we continually strive. Through hard work and dedication, we endeavor to achieve this Excellence in all that undertake, with a vision of making the world a better place.
